Abstract

The paper reports on the use of high speed cine photography, at framing rates up to 5000 pps, as a general observational and measurement tool in a large mechanical engineering Group of Companies. In addition, the development of a high speed cinephotographic service will be described and the practical problems associated with the introduction of such a facility into a production situation will be discussed, together with comments on the selection of appropriate equipment. The paper will conclude with a selection of film extracts to illustrate many of the points made in the earlier part of the paper. The general emphasis of the paper is on the practical rather than the theoretical aspects of the application of relatively unsophisticated techniques and apparatus to both the solution of day-to-day production problems and to research and development projects.
