The photochron family of streak-cameras has been demonstrated to have subpicosecond resolution (1). While pulses from a mode-locked flashlamp-pumped R6G dye laser were adequate for testing the first generation of these cameras, more indirect methods of generating subpicosecond pulses by Raman scattering processes were involved in the evaluation of the performance of the Photochron II system (2). More recently a passively mode-locked CW R6G dye laser has been developed to produce pulses having durations as short as 0.3 psec (3). These pulses have been used to directly measure the camera instrumental function. The streak camera had an S20 photocathode and was tested with ultrashort pulses at 610 nm. For this system the overall camera resolution would be expected to be iA)0.9 psec. We wish to present results which demonstrate directly that this camera has subpicosecond resolution at %600 nm. The performance of an optical multi-channel analyser to record picosecond streak images from this type of camera will also be discussed.
