Abstract
A new medical thermographic instrumentation system provides for direct measurement of human body surface temperatures and automatic on-line diagnostic interpretation by a microcomputer. This system directly measures 128 surface temperature areas with an infrared scanner array of 64 thermopile sensors. This thermal data is fed to a microcomputer which executes a diagnostic pattern recognition algorithm and prints out a report which summarizes the measurement data. Initial results indicate both a sensitivity and specificity of 80%. However, 80% of the women with cancer had Stage II or greater disease. An improved design of the initial prototype has been constructed.
