Abstract

Sinde the beginning of integrated optics many progresses have been made in the domain of optical switches. This includes switches realized with semiconductor materials and switches based on the use of crystals like LiNbO₃ . In this paper, we shall describe different switching devices which have been realized with channel waveguides by Ti in diffusion in LiNb0₃ crystals . After having briefly described some configurations which can be used to achieve switching in integrated optic, some recent applications and proposals based on these devices will be discussed.
