Abstract
This paper presents an analysis of the variation in the number of bits required to represent line copy (black/white graphics) imagery after data compression as a function of the input sampling resolution. This key system parameter is shown to be a linear function of the sample resolution for a broad class of documents and algorithms. Furthermore, the rationale for this phenomenon is developed and empirical results are presented to support the theoretical concepts developed.
