Abstract
This review paper discusses various image bandwidth compression techniques developed in the recent years. The article emphasizes the adaptive techniques and the techniaues that have had a multitude of applications due to superior performance of the former and the readers interest in the latter group. The nature of the discussion is heuristic to bring out the salient features of various techniques at the same time giving the readers a working knowledge of each technique and ideas on how to modify and apply to a particular application.
