Abstract

As the computer graphics world has become "rasterized", it has become increasingly similar in fundamental algorithms and concepts to image processing. This closure is evident in the definition of underlying data structures and hardware design. Unfortunately, the two fields remain rather disjoint in communication. This paper deals with the interface between image processing and graphics systems. SDC has incorporated key aspects of a graphics architecture as a natural extension to its image processing package. A system architecture is described with examples of how graphics capabilities enhance image processing system functionality for specific applications.
