Abstract
A low cost field installable single-mode fiber connector has been developed using a sphere/cone mating system. Active alignment of the fiber core is performed by means of a simple tool for the plug termination. Limited precision is required for the connector parts and the fibers. Average insertion loss of less than 0,5 dB and excellent repeatability and intermateability have been obtained.
