Abstract
The degree of homogeneity of ferric oxide in magnetic tapes has been characterised using photoacoustics. The technique is based on monitoring the local thermal properties of a magnetic tape sample excited by a modulated laser beam. Results of this study provide a potential means for the rapid evaluation of magnetic tape quality.
