26 April 2017 Assessment of uncertainty effect in piezoelectric metamaterial

Metamaterials with unit-cell integrated with piezoelectric transducer circuits exhibit interesting bang gap behaviors that can be used for wave/vibration manipulation. This research assesses the uncertainty effect to typical piezoelectric metamaterial, where uncertainties in geometry/configuration and circuitry elements are taken into consideration. Monte Carlo-based uncertainty analysis based on finite element discretization and order-reduced modeling is performed. Results show that band gap behavior is not sensitive to configuration uncertainty but is considerably affected by circuitry parameter uncertainty.
