27 April 2017 In-situ Raman investigation of optical fiber glass structural changes at high temperature

Abstract
Standard telecom fibers are systematically studied using Raman spectroscopy as a function of time with increasing temperature and for repeated thermal cycles between ambient temperature and 1000°C. Raman and transmission results strongly suggest that the coupling between fiber core and cladding causes the losses and variations due to glass structural evolution upon stress relaxation after annealing. This is of particular interest in light of recent proposal to understand regeneration process in fiber Bragg gratings at elevated temperatures.
