This paper concerns the introduction of a new class of experimental techniques into the instrumentation space of two scientific domains. It reports on the progress of a collaborative research effort between French and American teams' on how the introduction of laser-based optical techniques modified the organizational and cognitive structures of the domains of turbulence and turbulent combustion.
