8 May 2018 Closed-form solutions to replacement target models of sub-pixel spectral detection

Abstract
We revisit the replacement target problem in the spectro-optic detection of opaque sub-pixel materials, but with a more general distribution model. For pure target or background pixels we assume independent elliptically contoured distributions with covariance matrices related by a scale factor. An unknown sub-pixel mixing ratio defines a composite hypothesis testing problem, whose generalized likelihood ratio test cannot be expressed in closed form for the usual distribution models. Instead we derive closed-form detectors based on a clairvoyant fusion technique that effects a renormalization of the target probability density functions. These robust algorithms prove in some cases to be nearly indistinguishable from the intractable generalized likelihood ratio test solutions.
