27 April 2018 Mobile crowd-sensing for access point localization

Abstract
Nowadays, sensors built-in smartphones enable the collection of a large-scale of data in such a way that several applications can take place in a crowd-sensing paradigm. An interesting application is the device localization, which takes advantage of pervasive Wi-Fi networks in indoor and outdoor environments. We propose a crowd- sensing approach to localize access points in a building based on the collection of received signal strength, step detection and heading changes measurements of free-moving pedestrian users handling smartphones. The localization method boils down to computing likely positions of access points and iteratively estimating and validating related propagation models.
