Abstract
The Azipod propulsion system is based on the electric propulsion concept where the electric generators can be located in any compartment on the ship, since axial transmission is eliminated. Power is supplied into the unit through a horizontal input shaft inside the body, and the direction is given by the cogwheel at the end of the propeller shaft.
