Abstract
A procedure is given for optimizing phase-only filters with a phase range restricted to a continuous but limited range of phase. The signal-to-noise (SNR) ratio of this optimized "windowed" phase-only filter (WPOF) is compared with an optimized binary phase-only filter (BPOF) using a computer simulation. These results show that in certain cases the gain in SNR using the WPOF is significant.
