Abstract
Terahertz Spectral Characterization of NIR Nanomaterials Jillian P. Martin, M.E. Gkikas, C.S. Joseph and R.H. Giles Biomedical Terahertz Technology Center, University of Massachusetts Lowell, MA, USA Near-infrared responsive (NIR) nanomaterials are currently being developed for use in photothermal and photodynamic cancer treatment therapies. The NIR nanomaterials under investigation for such therapies include gold nanorods, gold nanoshells, lanthanide-doped nanomaterials, and graphene oxide. To date, researchers have shown that terahertz (THz) time-domain spectroscopy (TDS) can be used to track the concentration of gold nanorods. In this work, a THz-TDS system is utilized to investigate the terahertz spectral characteristics of various solutions of NIR nanomaterials.
