Abstract
Actually, available polymethyl tnethacrylate core plastic optical fibers present as attenuation versus wavelength characteristic strongly dependent on the wavelength is the red region of the spectrum, where the light emitting diodes are currently at hand. This paper shows how to calculate the penalty on fiber length caused by the AlsGai_aAs light emitting diode spectral characteristics, when the peak emission wavelength of this source is not optimized for utilization with a plastic fiber.
