Abstract
A novel curved long period grating(LPG) sensor based on eccentric hollow-core fiber (EHCF) is designed by high frequency CO2 laser micromachining method. The sensor is mainly composed of two parts, a large-sized EHCF and the curved LPG based on the EHCF as the carrier. The curved LPG is obtained by focusing the laser spot on the EHCF and writing along the axial direction. Comsol software was used to simulate the transmission modes supported by the EHCF. The theoretical model of the curved LPG sensor was established and samples of the curved LPG sensor were fabricated. The axial strain experiment results of the curved LPG sensor show that its sensitivity is as high as 4.5 pm/με in the range of 0 to 2500 με, and its linearity is 0.994. The sensitivity is ten times higher than that of conventional single-mode fiber LPG. The temperature change can be used to bidirectionally tune the spectrum of the C-LPG sensor. The sensor showed excellent repeatability and stability. Lead to innate and unique competitiveness in the field of stress and strain sensing.
