Abstract
Because of the advantages of high capacity and fast speed, suburban railway is regarded as an ideal way to achieve fast commuting between downtown area and its surrounding satellite cities. In the actual operation of suburban railway, trains generally use a mixture mode of "fast & slow train" to meet different travel needs, but this mode will inevitably lead to the occurrence of overtaking phenomenon between trains. Even in a same trains operating plan, there are still multiple different overtaking plans. And different overtaking plans will have different effects on line passing capacity. In order to find the overtaking plan that can maximize line passing capacity, this paper proposes a method for optimizing the passing capacity of suburban railway based on UIC406 method. And a real suburban railway line is used for simulation and verification. The optimization results show that on the simulated railway line and with the train operating plan we used in simulation, allowing trains to overtake can save 23.4% of the time consumed by the trains passing through the line compared to not allowing trains to overtake. And the bottleneck that affects the further reduction of the time consumption is mainly in the "first departure section" of each station.
