Abstract
The prevalence of adolescent obesity has risen globally, and it still shows an increasing trend. Adolescent obesity is also related to many chronic diseases, such as metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease. Obesity at a young age may also lead to psychological problems in teenagers. It’s important to identify the causes of adolescent obesity to better prevent and treat it. This article focuses on finding different factors that lead to adolescent obesity using the previous data and research results. It is found that individual factors, social factors, and COVID-19 can all affect adolescent obesity. Individual factors include genetics, gut microbiota, hormones, and physical activities. Adolescent obesity can also be influenced by social factors such as diets, psychology, and eating behaviors. During the pandemic, COVID-19, lockdown, and quarantine all contributed to adolescent obesity.
