Abstract
These days, almost every piece of business and office software has data management features. Planners and coordinators are responsible for maintaining schedules and databases of contacts. E-mail clients provide a convenient way to collect, review, and organize your correspondence. When it comes to managing your papers, word processors are invaluable, especially because of the sort and outline capabilities they provide for creating structure within the text. Spreadsheets may be familiar to most people because of their widespread use in the realm of personal finance, but their versatility extends well beyond that. A large percentage of these software packages also have simple data export and import capabilities. Database software, like Microsoft® Access and Corel Paradox®, is an effective method for managing enormous amounts of data. These applications generate relational databases, which allow for sophisticated sorting and linking of information depending on their content. One common use case is the monthly distribution of membership renewal notices, which is often automated by querying a relational database. However, unless you get the hang of how they function, these complicated relational database applications maybe a real pain to understand and operate. This is partly why there are so many specialized database tools for things like book indexes and family trees.
