Abstract
Instability of metal mirrors in C02-lasers is caused by the thermal load layed on such mirror surfaces which relieves the strain in the individual grain brought in to it by the deforination of the cutting and polishing process. A solution to this problem was sought and found in a single crystal, grown to its final form as a laser mirror, which had a one sided careful conventional polish for CW-lasers and for pulsed lasers no polish at all, but the crystal was grown against a replica of optical quality.
