Abstract
Tunable filters, wavelength division multiplexers and focusing elements may be needed in future fibre optic networks. Holographically generated elements can meet some of these requirements. Three holographically generated elements will be described in this paper. a tunable reflection filter a polarisation insensitive transmission grating; an array of microlenses. All three elements have been made in volume phase materials, either dichromated gelatin or rehalogenated silver halide. The phase material properties have to be different for each application: thickness and refrztive index modulation need to be optimised in each case. This will be discussed.
