1 October 1990 Optical processor for radar beamforming

Abstract
A new optical approach capable of providing simultaneous estimates of azimuth and elevation is presented. It is shown how acoustic and optical methods can be combined to reconstruct the far field of a 2D array. Particular attention is given to the basic theory of, and a quantitative transfer function for, the optical beamformer.
