1 January 1990 Reuse of persistent information between different paradigms: a knowledge-based approach

In this paper we introduce the concept of a new knowledge base component - the Conceptual Object Manager - which manages execution model semantics related to application objects in a knowledge based way. Thus, applications can reuse persistent information independently of their individual paradigm commitment. The realization of this work is an important part of the European ESPRIT Project 2443 - STRETCH (Extensible KBMS for Large Knowledge Based Applications)1 which is located at the confluence between Data Base Technology and Artificial Intelligence. This project will design and prototype a unique KBMS for applications from the object-oriented and the rule-based paradigm, extend the KBMS by a paradigm semantics management component and include a high performance physical storage system.
