Abstract
In response to the difficulty of constructing scoliosis assessment indices to locate anatomical landmarks and the low degree of automation, this paper proposes a back asymmetry index extraction algorithm based on ICP alignment. The method firstly uses an automated scoliosis screening system to obtain equally spaced cross-sectional contour line point cloud data of the human back, secondly extracts the region of interest ROI by image processing techniques, then performs ICP alignment of the source point cloud and the mirror point cloud generated using the sagittal plane, and finally calculates the asymmetry index of the source and matching mirror point clouds according to the nearest distance principle. The experimental results show that the correlation between the asymmetry index extracted by this algorithm and the cobb angle is strong (r=0.879, p<0.01), the diagnostic value of the asymmetry index for the Cobb angle is high (AUC=0.833). the method does not require localization of anatomical landmarks, can be automated, and is suitable for the assessment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.
