Abstract
This paper summarizes recent research in two related areas. The main result concerns the stereo matching problem. The discussion of this result forms the bulk of the paper. The second area concerns the problem of visual surface reconstruction from sparse depth data, and in particular, the significance of errors (outliers) in the data. Sections 2 through 4 cover stereo matching. Section 5 discusses surface reconstruction.
