Abstract
A new class of fiber optic arrays has been developed whose constituent elements have been shown to have fractal surface character 11,21. An important advantage of fractal fiberopticsTM in fiber optic faceplate (FOFP) applications is that the fiber lattice is much more highly ordered than in conventional FOFPs. This should, in theory, improve the optical performance. In this paper we review the fabrication and optical performance of a variety of fractal FOFPs.
