Abstract
A highly efficient, noise immune data redundancy reduction algorithm* for the transmission of facsimile data over digital communication channels is described. A summary of prior work in spatial distance data compression technology (including source encoding, channel encoding, and synchronization coding) is pre-sented to allow comparison of the performance of the DATALOG-developed algorithm used in the Tactical Digital Facsimile program with various other data compression techniques submitted for consideration to the Internation Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee (CCITT) as the world standard for digital Group 3 facsimile equipments.
