Abstract
Considerations in the design and implementation of a real-time video tracking system are presented. The availability of low cost, high speed programmable logic arrays (PLAs) has reduced the complexity and restrictions normally associated with video tracker design. The use of advanced Digital Signal Processor (DSP) devices allows for software programming of sophisticated tracking algorithms. A design is presented that tracks objects using a centroid algorithm within an RS-l70 video signal in real-time with dynamically adjustable parameters such as track window size, thresholds and edge sensitivity.
