Abstract
In this paper we have studied the nonlinear performance of an adiabatic magnicon with the geometry of Fig. 1. The electron beam is assumed to be initially unmodulat- ed, monoenergetic, with only axial velocity v0 =Roc for each constituent electron and infinitesimally thin. In each cavity the radiation fields are described by electric -1 and magnetic field amplitudes to represent a guided mode with phase velocity n >1. A magnetostatic field is directed along the axis of the system. In each cavity, this field is assumed uniform, to provide both for beam guiding and for the interaction at the cyclotron resonance. In the space between the two cavities, an adiabatic varia- tion of the magnetostatic field is provided, while an additional axial electric field is assumed to be also present.
