Abstract
The change in oscillating characteristics of a tuneable (20-100GHz) gyrotron was studied with the change of the cavity wall material, all other dimensions and operating parameters remaining constant. This was achieved by direct comparison between two gyrotrons: the Mk7 gyrotron, based on a shaped anode cavity and constructed from stainless steel (a = 1.39x1060-1m4), and the Mk8 gyrotron possessing an identical two-electrode field-immersed, field emission, cold cathode, but with the 23mm inner diameter maser cavity constructed from oxygen-free high conductivity (O.F.H.C.) copper (a=5.92x1070-1m-1).
