Abstract
This paper develops design constraints for alias free and perfect reconstruction (PR) rational two channel filter banks. The polyphase transfer matrix for the overall system is developed, and it is shown that for a subset of all rational systems, the relations reduce to a polyphase matrix similar to that of the classic M-channel maximally decimated system. Following well known results, it is then straightforward to give constraints in terms of the analysis and synthesis filters for alias free, as well as PR systems.
