Abstract
After a short introductory review of the state-of-the-art of VCSELs novel double-mesa structures for extremely low lasing thresholds of 650 pA and wide tuning ranges of 5.6 nm are presented. The topics addressed include dynamics and noise behavior, higher order transverse mode oscillation, external and coupled cavity systems, and injection locking.
