Abstract
The experiments are reported on linearly splitting HeNe laser modes using a movable, intracavity crystal quartz wedge. The slope of the curve of mode split is dependent upon the wedge angle and angle between crystalline axis and the laser beam in the laser cavity. When the wedge angle is 9.5 ° and angle between the crystalline axis and laser beam in the cavity is 5 ° , 13 ° and 18 ° , the slope of the mode split curve is about 21KHz / pm, 42KHz / pm and 94.5KHz / pm respectively. It is possible to develope such a experimental device into a microdisplacement sensor with high sensitivity.
