Abstract
The amplification regime of a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser with an unstable resonator that uses radially variable-reflectivity mirror of super-Gaussian profile has been investigated. The results obtained in this configuration are compared with those determined at low pumping repetition rate in a standard stable resonators. An increase in the brightness with at least one order of magnitude was obtained. The thermal lensing effects on the amplification process at high pumping repetition rate were also studied.
