Abstract
There were many research papers about the enhancement of image performance[1]. We have also studied about the aperture modulation effects on the MTF of the optical system on a theoretical and experimental level[2.3]. The aberration compensation effects and spatial frequency filtering effects have already been found out, but there are some trouble in ap- plying the aperture modulation in practical optical system - light energy loss, vignetting effects and so on. So that, we tried to be free from the above constraints and to improve the image performance by phase modulation. Here, the phase modulation effects on the MTF of a binocular objective are investigated by varying the width and the position of the phase retarded area.
