Abstract
A rigorous analysis of guided waves in anisotropic grating waveguides for the general case of oblique propagation is presented. Guided modes become TE-like and TM-like modes owing to the coupling between ordinary and extraordinary waves (0 and E waves). The numerical examples clarify the existence of peculiar stop band and leaky waves owing to the anisotropy and the three-dimensionality of the problem.
