Abstract
An experimental setup for direct measurement of guided and radiated microwaves (A = 5 mm) at rib waveguide model structures is presented. Measurements of guided and radiated waves at any position along and across the waveguide allow a verification of numerical calculations. Experimentally determined propagation constants yield a good agreement with values calculated by the Effective Index Method (EIM) in EH- as well as in HE-polarization. It was possible to reproduce the measured field patterns of guided modes and substrate radiation in the backplane of the rib-waveguide adequately by the Propagating Beam Method (PBM).
