Abstract
Pulse duration of recent mode-locked femtosecond pulse solid state laser systems is limited by the third-order dispersion originating from prism diffraction, prism material, the laser active material and other cavity elements. The frequency-dependent group delay introduced by specially designed thin film structures can be effectively utilized to minimize the resultant intracavity third- and higher-order dispersion.
