Abstract
Several theoretical and experimental studies have been developed in order to simplify the construction and to improve the performance of filters based on Mellin radial harmonics (MRH), for scale invariant pattern recognition. An algorithm to obtain both the proper center and the best order of the MRH expansion has been developed Moreover, a real filter based on MRH has been designed This real filter has the same scale invariance as the conventional complex MRH filters, with the main advantage of its simplicity. Finally a new postprocessing technique, based on energy considerations has been developed, in order to increase the discrimination capability of the MRH component filters.
