Abstract
A low-coherence excitation of a two-mode fiber that leads to suppressed interference pattern at the exit face of the fiber is analyzed. The use of classical coherence formalism and guided modes field representation reveales that the principle of coherence modulation can be used; the optical path difference between guided modes that exceeds the source coherence length can be compensated in Michelson interferometer configuration.
