Abstract
Since a few decades ago the polarizing properties of roof prisms have been studied, mainly because of the anomalies introduced by these prisms on the images when they work with polarized light .1' 2' 3' 4 . G. Rodriguez-Zurita, et al 5 have shown that inserting an Amici prism between two linear polarizers they were able to use the roof prism as a phase and amplitude spatial filter, and produced some Schlieren-kind images of a lens. As a particular case they showed that when the two polarizers have a 90° relative orientation, the two different kind of rays have the same amplitude at the exit of the second polarizer, but their relative phase may be changed from 180 0 to 223.3° , by only rotating together the two polarizers; i.e. the phase shift variation is 43.3 (a little bit more than a tenth of a period).
