Abstract
The beam fanning effect in photorefractive BaTiO3 crystal is investigated from the pattern of transmitted beam before generation of phase conjugate wave takes place and it is explained as the consequence of spatial variation of the refractive index due to photorefractivity and self-phase modulation.
