Wave optical studies of short light pulses with tilted pulse front propagating through a slit are presented. The calculations, based on the Fraunhofer diffraction theory, showed a small, additional pulse appearing behind the slit with the original pulse. This additional pulse, predicted by the boundary wave theory, diverges from the direction of the original propagation by the angle of the pulse front tilt. The calculations for white light illumination with tilted pulse front showed that the interference stripes diverge from the maximum of the intensity by the angle of the pulse front tilt, and no interference can be seen at the maximum of the intensity. In our experiment a white light source was used, the pulse front tilt was made by a prism. The results of the measurements and the calculations are in agreement.
