Abstract
Optical measurement techniques such as structured illumination (fringe projection) with white light or Laser1 and holographic contouring 2,3 allow a non contact and field wise access to the shape and the location of three dimensional objects. For all known methods the process of measurement can be devided into two steps:

1. to each image point of the object a phase or phase difference value is assigned as the primary measuring quantity

2. based on a geometric model of the image formation process the 3D-coordinates are determined using these phase values and certain geometric parameters of the measurement unit identified by a two-step-calibration procedure.
