Abstract
Spectra of some aminoacid single crystals, proteins, DNA andcells of k.icoli B bacteria were studied in the submillimeter region(10-400 cm ). Low-frequency vibrations were investigated by farinfrared (FIR) absorption andlRaman scattering (RS). The presence ofa wide band in the 50-350 cm interval is a characteristic featureof aminoacids of FIR absorption under study. On this absorption bandabout 10-30 relatively narrow bands (halfwidth 2-10 cm ) wereobserved. In FIR and RS spectra of all aminoacids the observednumber of low frequency bands exceeded the calculated one. In theFAR spectra not only of aminoacids but also of protein, DNA andcells broad background in the region of the 100-350 cm was found.E.coli bacteria spectrum looked like the superposition of theconstituent protein and DNA spectra.
