Abstract
The EyeSys Corneal Analysis System and the TMS Topographic Modeling System were compared, both when properly aligned and under specified conditions of misalignment, in their ability to map a sharp transition in curvature in order to model the type of surface topography that might be produced after photorefractive keratectomy. Results indicate that neither system can accurately reconstruct the transition zone, and that the source of the error is data averaging across the meridians to produce a smooth display for the EyeSys system, and lesser averaging combined with a fundamental error in reconstructing the peripheral region for the TMS system. In addition, the TMS is shown to possess greater sensitivity to errors of decentration and defocus for the bicurve test surface, while the EyeSys system is shown to be relatively immune to similar conditions of misalignment.
