13 September 1994 Fabry-Perot spectrometer concept for satellite-based atmospheric observations in the far infrared

Abstract
A Fabry-Perot spectrometer concept suited for satellite observations of OH and other trace gases which emit in the far infrared region is presented. Long term observations can be accomplished by using high Tc detectors in conjunction with mechanical Stirling coolers which have been developed for space applications. In comparison with Fourier transform spectrometers and heterodyne devices the instrument is small, sensitive and robust. Its spectral resolution (in excess of 104) is shown to be sufficient to completely avoid spectral interference in OH observations.
